Ticino. Arrivals and Departures

“Objects of common usage, characters; or simply empty uniforms of generals, empty slips of absent girlfriends, solitary or severe faces, people with suitcases, landscapes, all line up on Gansser’s paintings with the same peaceful, quiet, easy obsession with which every single one of us faces them in our everyday experience. The composition is frequently in front view, centred: the painting consists of two halves, on one side a man with an axe falls against an assembly of cultural symbols, not to annihilate them, but to relativise them; to tear down the walls, to dissolve the boundaries. With his broad and expansive brush strokes, focussing more on the whole rather than the details, Gansser anxiously wants to express a weltanschauung in which cultural elements arriving from all continents, without prejudice, can announce themselves.” Gansser is, indeed, a tireless traveller, always a part of the Ticino; he disappears in the most diverse lands and always comes back to meditate visually on everything he has experienced.
